Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center in Salt Lake City, Utah
Nestled in the heart of Salt Lake City, Utah, the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center is a cultural icon for Salt Lake natives. Created after a community cultural needs assessment, the Performing Arts Center was made in response to the need for additional rehearsal space for the tenants at Capitol Theatre as well as affordable performance spaces for the myriad of performing arts companies that have developed over the last 25 years. Since first being built, the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center has expanded in phases to include three theatres and performance spaces for public use.
In addition to the Performing Arts Center, the Rose Wagner Art Gallery offers visitors a piece of cultural bliss. Priding itself on showcasing noteworthy Utah artists and the best of the best in Utah artwork, the Rose Wagner Art Gallery showcases over 450 works of art from over 400 artists. The Gallery prides itself on its diverse collection, offering "something for everyone to enjoy." The works, displayed on a rotating basis, range from prolific to contemporary all available for sale at the end of the day.
The Leona Wagner Black Box Theatre was opened first in January of 1997. The Leona Theatre has been used by a number of noteworthy companies and artists including Children's Ballet Theatre, Children's Dance Theatre and Dance Theatre Coalition. The Jeanne Wagner Theatre was opened next. It is the home of various dance theaters and companies. The last theater, the Studio Theatre, is an open rehearsal or performance space.
The Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center is named after the family members of the Center's biggest donor, I.J. Wagner. Rose Wagner was I.J.'s mother, whom he lovingly named the center after. The Leona Wagner Black Box Theatre is named after Mr. Wagner's sister, and the 500 seat theatre is named after Mr. Wagner's late wife Jeanne.
