Hellenic Memorial Cultural Center in Salt Lake City, UT
The Hellenic Memorial Cultural Center is the first Ethnic Greek Museum in United States and is the main attraction of the Greek orthodox community that is in Salt Lake City, in Utah. The main intention for building the Hellenic Memorial Cultural Center was to educate everyone of the Greek presence in Utah. There is a display of colorful photographs, letters, dolls and tools that are made available to all those interested in learning about the struggles, lives and contributions of the Greek to the community. The exhibits in the museum depict the life of Greek community from the turn of the century till date. The museum also displays dolls dressed in Greek costumes, household items of the early Greeks, and religious artifacts. The Salt Lake Greek community presents the Greek Festival every September to which thousands of people flock to the destination every year to enjoy the dance, music and the delicious food that the authorities provides. During the Greek festival, visitors are also allowed to visit the renovated Holy Trinity Cathedral. The museum can be entered from the cathedral which is again a beautiful sight and worth seeing in itself because of its excellent architecture. The place is a wonderful experience for those who want to get the feel of the Greek culture — both past and present. The Greek Orthodox Church sets aside funds that are generated through the festival. These funds are used for supporting the charities of the community. The Orthodox Church is the classical form of Christian life. Orthodoxy is the national religion of Greece.
