Salt Lake City is home to a great sports venue; the Energy Solutions Arena. Home to the Utah Jazz and WNBA's Utah Starzz the Energy Solutions Arena is primarily used as a basketball arena though it has been used for other events as well most notably as an ice skating rink during the Winter Olympics. During this time the Energy Solutions Arena became the Salt Lake Ice Center and saw competition for figure skating and short track speed skating. The Utah Blaze arena Football Team began to call this arena as home as well.
This facility was not always known by its current name. The arena was formerly known as the
Delta Center named for Delta Airline. However, the airline company did not wish to renew their contract with the facility. Energy Solutions bought the naming rights instead which was not necessarily a welcomed change for everyone. Energy Solutions is a small nuclear waste disposal company causing many citizens of Salt Lake City to develop some rather disparaging nicknames for the arena. A common nickname is The Dump, for the work that Energy Solutions does and not for the condition of the stadium itself.
In fact the Energy Solutions Arena features 56 luxury suites and over 600 club seats along with 24 refreshment stands; certainly not a dump at all.
The Energy Solutions Arena is a well known landmark in Salt Lake City and a popular venue for performances, concerts, and other event other then the popular basketball and now arena football.
Close to several of Salt Lake City's hotels and located within the heart of the city, the Energy Solutions Arena is a favorite for visitors and locals.
