Great Salt Lake Bird Festival in Farmington, UT
The Great Salt Lake Bird Festival is an annual event held to showcase the birds of Great Salt Lake and the surrounding areas. Held in Farmington, Utah the Festival features bus/van/car/boat tours to birding areas, workshops with expert speakers, artists, displays, booths and food including an annual Festival dinner. The annual Festival dinner is based on certain themes such as Dutch oven. The Festival features a variety of events and activities for your entire family. For the kids there are art contests; photo booths where they can get their pictures clicked with live birds; exhibits, and booths. The Festival also features booths offering various informative, environment sensitive programs; vendors selling optical and birding equipment for the avid bird watchers, and colorful, well-designed displays. For those of you with an interest in art, there are also beautiful pieces of artwork on display by various national and local artists. Under the guidance of Debbie Goodman, the 2008 Festival featured artwork by Davis County's own Lamplight Art Gallery Artists. Bus and van tours are usually scheduled to Antelope Island State Park, and special 'Behind the Gates' tours to Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge while, Gillmor Sanctuary, Inland Sea Shorebird Reserve, Farmington Bay, and Ambassador Duck Club are also very popular. Tours are also scheduled to sites in the Wasatch Mountains, Cache Valley, Utah Valley, and some urban trail and wetland sites. Field trips are offered every day of the Festival. Workshop topics vary from Beginning Birding to Identifying Flycatchers. The booths, workshops, and food are set up at the Davis County Events Center. The workshops, exhibits and presentations are free to the public. For those of you looking to get in on the avarian action, mark your calendars for the 2009 Festival slated for May 14th - 18th, 2009
