The original Salt Palace was constructed in 1899 and was a popular venue for citywide dances, festivals, theatrical events and more. It was destroyed by a fire in 1910, and while a new venue used for the same purposes was soon after constructed, a new "Salt Palace" was not built until 1970. The new Salt Palace was constructed on land that was once the city's Little Tokyo. The venue featured an arena with seating for 12,666 that was used to host games for the Utah Stars and the Utah Jazz, as well as other events. This venue was demolished in 1994.
Soon after, the state-of-the-art Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center was constructed. The new building sits in the heart of the downtown area close to the renowned Temple Square at 100 S West Temple. This venue features 515,000 square feet of exhibition space and 164,000 square feet of meeting space that consists of a grand ballroom and 66 unique meeting rooms. The current Salt Palace was used as the Olympic Media Center during the city's 2002 Winter Olympics. This grand building is an architectural masterpiece that was designed by some of the leading architects throughout the world. With stunning visual effects and gorgeous detail, it is the perfect venue to host exhibitions, shows, and more.
Whether you have plans to enjoy a trade show, exhibition, or other event at the Salt Palace or you simply want to admire the gorgeous architecture, you won't want to miss visiting the Salt Palace while you are visiting Salt Lake City.
