Salt Lake City, Utah has a lot to offer, however, many people may not know that there are many great religious sites and attractions in Salt Lake City. The Brigham Young Monument, the Historic Temple Square, and the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church are a few examples of these religious sites.
Bingham Young Monument
The Brigham Young Monument is a tribute to Brigham Young who was best known as a pioneer, colonizer, and leader. This 25 foot tall bronze monument has several figures surrounding the base that depict the time when Brigham led the Mormon pioneers to the Utah Territory. The East side of the base has an Indian figure and the West side shows a bearded fur trapper, both of which had already made the Utah Territory home before the settlers arrived. A pioneer man, woman, and child are on the South side of the base, representing the settlers who followed Brigham, while the North side lists the names of the pioneers and the equipment they brought with them to the Utah Territory. Brigham Young, also known as "American Moses", was the founder of Salt Lake City, the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the first governor of Utah Territory.
Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church
Little by little Greek immigrants had made their way to Utah due to the rapid growth of the area and on October 29, 1905 the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church was opened. Eventually the Greek immigrants dominated the work force in the area and it was obvious they needed a larger church. In 1923 they began the construction of a new church that boasted unique Byzantine architecture. Today it is still one of the largest Greek Orthodox Churches in the country.
