National and City Parks in Salt Lake City, UT

Summer is the perfect time to enjoy outdoor activities in Salt Lake City's many local and state parks. Whether you're hiking, biking, or doing any number of other outdoor activities, you will have a great time in the warm summer weather with the gorgeous backdrop of Salt Lake City's great outdoors.

At the Dead Horse Point State Park, you will find incredible natural beauty with open prairie and picturesque western scenes. After visiting this park, you will know why it is one of the most photographed attractions in the world. The park is great for sightseeing, hiking, camping, and biking. Water is very limited, so be sure to bring plenty of water with you into the car.

The Dog Lake Trail is a popular destination for solo or family adventures in the wilderness, as well as bringing your dog and even horse. The trail wraps around Dog Lake and offers trail heads in Cottonwood Canyon and Mill Creek Canyon. Whether you're biking, hiking with your dog, or horseback riding around the trail, a swim in the lake is a great way to cool off afterwards.

Another popular trail is the Great Western Trail. This expansive trail system links eighteen national forests, as well as Indian and state lands. While you're on this trail, you will enjoy a variety of landscapes including plateaus, woodlands, forests, and alpine meadows. Altogether, this trail system spans a length of 4,455 miles and crosses through the states of Utah, Arizona, Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana. You can't go wrong by enjoying any section of the Great Western Trail.

You cannot visit Salt Lake City without taking time to visit the George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park. This park transports you back to prehistoric times with fossilized marine animals, flying reptiles, and more. The park also boasts recreated specimens of crawlers as well as predators including triceratops, parasaurolophus, utahraptor, tyrannosauras, and more. You will enjoy everything from robotic replicas to actual teeth and bones from the real thing. This park also features a gift shop and restaurant.

The Granger Park is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the great outdoors in the heart of the city. Whether you're enjoying a picnic, taking a jog, or hiking, you will have a great time enjoying the beautiful weather and beautiful scenery of Granger Park. This park is often used for special events, including the popular Annual Native American Association Festival and Contest Pow Wow in August.

Another popular city park is Liberty Park, which offers a Children's Garden, a boating pond, a playground, an amusement park, and a snack bar. You will also find hike and bike trails, a swimming pool, and lighted tennis courts. While you're visiting Liberty Park, take some time to visit the Tracy Aviary and historic Chase House on-site. This park is also used to host special events including the popular Utah Arts Festival and the Native American Celebration.
